There is the bad weather again

Wasn’t too bad actually. Just a bit of rain and not too windy.

Had a hard time sticking with the low heartrate … averaged 144 over 30 minutes. More luck and discipline tomorrow …

Get up and run!

I woke up today and wanted to get on top of a hill … I know running does crazy things to you.

Fortunately for me a hill is just around the corner. I didn’t even wait for sunrise and just headed to the beach.

Today wasn’t a double sock day, but the wind was making a bit of a wave. Nothing like the gale force stuff I had got used to over the winter so happy times! You can see the hill and the obelisk on top. Getting there does involve  a bit of climbing.

Now if the hike didn’t kill your breath the views will – sun is optional!

You can see Dublin waking up in the distance.

Check out the beach below where I started. Looks like the tide is still out so more playtime!

And that’s what I did, inventing some sort of new  slow running reverse hill training. While I couldn’t discipline myself enough to hike up steep hilly parts at a low heartrate I kept it down while running. I was surprised how much of it I could actually run and what joy it was! Checkout the pics … only a runner can understand how those surfaces bring happiness to feet!

I ended up climbing up another hill and snag a pic while the heartrate cooled down.

All in all a perfect experience that ended with me falling into a bowl of baba ganoush I had from yesterday.

… and then something amazing happened

Today I had this moment of doubt … this tiny voice trying to convince me to drink another coffee before heading out for a run … but we all know how this would have ended. So I did the best to ignore that voice by putting on my running layers and it worked. Somehow I found myself out the door and as I spotted the rays of light breaking through I couldn’t wait to hit the beach. After warmup and taking in the sunrise I started my run.

And then something amazing happened!

My app had lost the connection to my heartrate monitor!!!

All I can say to my defense is that I had the most amazing time ‘flying down the beach’ and if there is no proof it didn’t happen right?

Now let’s quickly distract ourselves with some more photos:

Can you spot our friend spreading it’s wings?

Yes I’m in love – Hummus and Vegetables

Hummus and Vegetables

The hummus did taste like magic today! I was excited to see leeks again after weeks in my weekly box and must say that tomato/hummus and leeks is a heavenly combination. I am now fully convince that me an hummus are a pair!

So for future reference, if I need a quick protein boost and don’t want my frozen chilli, hummus is the answer!

Now what did I put in? Garlic, cherry tomatoes, precooked chickpeas, tahin, lemon juice, sea salt and chilli.

Also … do you see the ginormous amounts I eat for lunch and don’t feel stuffed or brainfogged? Gotta love plants!!!

Here’s a treat!

I was being treated again with a beautiful sunrise. Temperatures around -3 couldn’t stop the birds spreading their wings and bathing in the sun, nor me doing a slow 30 minutes. The double/double sock strategy is working a treat and I get away with 10 minutes warmup walking  and no heartrate spikes.

This is a perfect week: the tide is perfect, no rain or wind and my heartrate is getting used to staying in or below the 140s.

Life is good, it’s just a matter of wearing the right amount of layers!

Also, someone seems to have called backup:

Love for hummus?

I have a blender and chickpea experiences, so I should be able to love hummus.

And I am getting the hang of it! Blended to perfection with garlic and tomatoes.

It’s getting better

The sun is getting up much earlier these days and so am I. Did a slow 40 minutes up and down the beach which treated me with soft sand and a calm sea.

It is easier to stick to the low heartrate and I think I recovered nicely from the flu. How can I still stick with this? In my head, comes summer, I’ll be much faster albeit the still low heartrate. At least keeping this image in my head helps me with it … and that’s a my goal for now … run long hours in the summer and discover more of Ireland’s hidden trail treasures.

On a different topic: Nessy is doing great!

Getting the hang of it

Fruit Salad

I never was much of a breakfast person and am rather happy with my coffee. Somehow now with all the changes that have been happening, I am getting hungrier earlier. I try and drink a glass of water first thing and then coffee. After I got my run in and some work done I end up in the kitchen. Lately I got used to just picking out the fruit that has to go, slice it up, mix lemon juice with my sweetener of choice and sprinkle them with seeds. Top combination is pumkin seeds with mango – bitter sweet.

Somehow I can snack on this and enjoy it. It also feels like my body is quite thankful for this boost after my run and my brain turns into overdrive.

Calm start

It was good to get out there. Hoping to get a week of 6 times running in and next week I want to be back at my old schedule.

Love that the sun rises so much earlier than in December!
